Before my marriage I wanted to spend some good amount of time with my parents and siblings and make it memorable for them. So I decided to plan out a Trip with my family.
Being born into a family of avid travelers, who have covered all the north Indian parts except Dharamshala and Mcleodganj, I wanted to give this final trip to My family and plan it out my way to show them that I can plan as well and travelling is in my genes.
So one fine day I booked the tickets for all of us and bombarded them with the news of a short and sweet trip to the place they have missed on to celebrate our New Year 2017. Trust me, it was the most amazing, cherish-able, gleeful and memorable trip of my life, where I could see the happiness in my parent’s eyes that how their l’il daughter has grown up and has taken them on a trip so far.
We took the Volvo on 31st December night and wished each other amidst the way and reached Dharamshala stop early in the morning (but still it was dark) and there was not even a dog around on the street. Nevertheless we found our hotel amidst all that and then began our rocking journey.. on the first day while loitering around after getting ready, me and my brother discovered the Kangra Art Museum which had mesmerizing and intricate paintings, fossils, ornaments of the Kangra valley life preserved very nicely.
After shopping the hand knitted mittens and caps we booked a cab. The cab driver took us down the hill to the tea gardens spread across acres of lands and serving to the world the aromatic Kangra tea, Naddigaon, Bagsunath Temple Waterfall and Saurabh Van Vihar of Palampur which is a habitat for numerous birds, herbs, plants. It’s a recreational place which caters to all the age groups. We did boating over here along with having fun on swings and slides. It also has Picnic Sheds, Children Park, Water streams, and Health trails, Open Air Theatre, Bamboosetum and Tiger Hill Bridge.
Along the way to Palampur we actually saw a lot of para-gliders trying paragliding. Palampur has also been named as the best paragliding site in the WORLD…!!!!!! Yes you read that right. Also, the Paragliding World Cup was organized from October 24–31 under the aegis of Para-gliding World Cup Association, France here in Palampur due to its sound infrastructure that was set up at Bir-Billing (at 2290 meters in Himachal Pradesh).
After having a tiring yet fun filled day we came back and planned for a next day trip to Mcleodganj (we were confused initially weather Dharamshala and Mcleodganj are same or different as while booking the hotels for Dharamshala, we could see the options for Mcleodganj. So we booked the hotel for Mcleodganj and thought we would find it once we reach Dharamshala. But to our dismay we reached on 1st January morning and all the guests as well as hoteliers were dozed off and nobody opened the doors for us with lot of struggle one receptionist finally opened the door for us and we had some relief).
Next day, we booked a cab and headed towards Mcleodganj, which is actually just 10 km, but it took us about an hour to reach there. The driver first took us to Gyuto monastery which was a serene place and the lamas used to stay there as well. Secondly we went to the bigger and crowded monastery on hill top Namgyal monastery, where in some were praying, some were turning the prayer wheel and the others clicking pictures in front of the magnificent Buddha statue. The Buddhist culture was so explicitly visible in and around that place. We tasted some sumptuous Tibetan food at Lobsang’s Four Seasons Cafe and reserved the next day for local shopping and strolling around. This is the tale of my small trip, that became fun when accompanied by my family.
